About us
Mission & Values
What we believe, why we built PolicyPal.Dev, and how we approach insurance analysis.
Our Mission
Insurance should be clear, fair, and understandable.
PolicyPal.Dev exists to help individuals and businesses make confident insurance decisions by translating complex policy documents into plain English, identifying potential gaps in cover, and highlighting where people may be overpaying or under-protected.
We believe everyone deserves to understand exactly what they are covered for — before they need to make a claim.
Why PolicyPal.Dev Exists
PolicyPal.Dev was created by someone with over 10 years of experience working across insurance brokers and insurers.
During that time, one issue became consistently clear:
Most people never truly understand their insurance policies.
Not because they aren’t trying — but because insurance documents are complex, technical, and often difficult to interpret without specialist training.
At the same time, many clients rely heavily on intermediaries to explain what is and isn’t covered. In practice, this can sometimes lead to gaps in understanding between what a business believes it is covered for, and what the policy wording actually says.
The Problem We Set Out to Solve
Across years of working in the industry, we observed a few recurring challenges:
- Insurance language is highly technical. Policy documents are often long, complex, and filled with terminology that is not easy to interpret without specialist knowledge. This can make it difficult for businesses and individuals to fully understand their cover.
- Misalignment of understanding can happen. Insurance brokers and advisers play an important role in the market, but they may not always have deep operational understanding of every client’s business or every detail within insurer wording. This can sometimes result in gaps between expectations and actual cover.
- Incentives in the system can be complex. In many cases, brokers are compensated through commission structures set by insurers. This means there can be situations where higher premiums result in higher commission, and where the commercial incentives of the system do not always align perfectly with a customer’s goal of minimising cost or optimising cover.
- Claims can be difficult to navigate. Claims handling is one of the most stressful parts of insurance. In some cases, clients may receive cautious advice around whether to claim, particularly where claims frequency can influence insurer relationships or pricing. This can leave customers uncertain about their best course of action.
- Responsibility ultimately sits with the policyholder. In most cases, whether purchasing through a broker or directly from an insurer, the responsibility to understand and accept the policy terms ultimately sits with the customer. This means misunderstandings or gaps in cover can have real consequences.
What We Believe
We don’t believe the insurance system is “broken”.
But we do believe it is not transparent enough for most people to confidently navigate without support.
We believe:
- Policyholders should clearly understand what they are buying.
- Coverage gaps should be visible before they become costly problems.
- Premiums should be explainable and challengeable.
- Claims decisions should be understandable and evidence-based.
- People should not need industry experience to understand their own insurance.
What PolicyPal.Dev Does Differently
PolicyPal.Dev is designed to sit on the customer’s side of the table.
We analyse insurance documents independently and help users understand:
- What is actually covered (and what is not).
- Where policy wording may create risk or gaps.
- Whether premiums appear reasonable for the level of cover.
- How renewal changes affect protection and cost.
- How to respond when a claim is questioned or denied.
Our goal is not to replace brokers or insurers, but to give customers a clearer, independent perspective so they can make more informed decisions.
Our Values
- Clarity over complexity. Insurance should be understandable without needing industry experience.
- Independence. Our analysis is designed to be neutral and focused on the policyholder’s perspective.
- Transparency. We aim to make risks, exclusions, and costs visible in plain language.
- Empowerment. Users should feel confident asking questions, challenging decisions, and understanding their cover.
A Note From the Founder
If you’ve ever felt unsure about what your insurance actually covers, you’re not alone.
That uncertainty is what PolicyPal.Dev was built to reduce.
This tool exists to help people make better-informed decisions — whether that means reducing unnecessary costs, avoiding coverage gaps, or simply gaining clarity and confidence in their insurance.
